Lisette (16) is in addition to writing songs, and of course performance board sports, in love with diving, climbing, running and ballroom dancing. A sporty chick! Golf surfing is Lisettes number one, but in addition to that the also likes to snowboard, longboard and stand up paddle (sup). A versatile lady this month, who may call herself the Board chick of december! Style Spy asked her wetsuit of the body;-)
The first time I came into contact with boardsports …
That was last year, on Lanzarote. It suddenly came to me to go and surf, and while I was gone I’m got surprised reactions – and with results! I was completely hooked and started surfing more often, but also snowboarding, sup and windsurfing. A while ago I got to longboard at the Dutch Board Chicks surf festival and it went so well that I bought my first longboard!
I practice …
Longboarding I do regularly, provided it is not raining (which in the Netherlands is a special thing;)). Unfortunately, I live too far from the sea and the mountains to surf or snowboard weekly, but when I get the chance – and the waves are good – you can find me in Scheveningen. Snowboarding I’ve done so far in Bottrop (yes, I’m still a rookie) and windsurfing on Lake Veluwe.
The hardest thing I find …
Traps and rinsed aren’t fine, haha! But it’s more fun when you get up afterwards anyways, go ahead and push your limits. That means you learn something about yourself and win! If you surf, you also experience again the overwhelming power of the sea, which is nothing else to compared with and I think the reason that everyone who tries it gets so addicted to the sport.
My goal is …
As I often practice longboarden I have goals in that sport. like sliding and cross-stepping, I would soon get the hang of it, it puts a good basis for downhill and Dances.
I go to this board chick events ..
In late September I went to the Board Chicks Surf Festival, it was great fun! Meet a lot of other board sports-minded girls, did some nice boarding and followed a clinic power kiting. My appearance there was one of the best so far, it was truly a memorable weekend!
My dream destination for surfing …
Hawaii, without a doubt! But also Australia, New Zealand, California and Bali are high on my to-do list. I love huge traveling, photography and adventure, a perfect combination of boardsports!
It sure is! And what is your advice for beginners?
Just do it! It’s really a question of mind over matter, even though you can be hurt. If you take care of yourself and others, you can avoid nasty injuries. It is also highly recommended to take classes and to liaise with other boarders, like a chat, they may be able to help you on your way and give tips and boardsporters are often nice and relaxed people.
Agree! And what is your ultimate must-have?
If you are open to new things, you’ll have great experiences. Furthermore, (this also applies to not-yet-board chicks) it’s good for your body to eat fresh and organic food. Also yoga and running gives your mind and body a boost, it never hurts!
And last: a Board Check:
My first board is the Loaded Dervish Sama. I have a complete with Paris trucks and 80a Orangatang wheels, it’s good for cruising and carving and has some nice flex. Because I do not live close to the sea it makes the purchase of my first surfboard still a to do!
Lisette also got her own website where you can listen to her music. Also, you can always send an email to say hi!
Thanks Lisette and good luck with boardsports!
